Aug. 15 is deadline to enter ‘Shades of Blackness Art Exhibition’

Exhibition will run Sept. 6–Oct. 4 at DeVos Place with Opening Reception on Sept. 19

SMG-managed DeVos Place will be hosting an art exhibition that features work from African American Artists from across the United States of America as part of a partnership with the Third Annual Grand Rapids African American Art and Music Celebration and Project 1.

 

Shades of Blackness: An Exhibition of African American Artists will open at DeVos Place on Friday, Sept. 6, 2019 and run through Friday, Oct. 4, 2019. Doors will be open for public viewing from 8am-6pm daily. An Opening Reception for the exhibition will be held at DeVos Place on Thursday, Sept. 19 from 5:30 -7:30pm.

 

The exhibition is currently accepting entries until Thursday, August 15 at 5pm and is open to functional, nonfunctional, 2D, 3D, fine art, and fine craft in all mediums. In conjunction with the African American Art and Music Festival, this exhibition is open to all African American artists living in the United States. All work must be original and created without the aid of an instructor or kit. Work needs to have been produced within the last five years. All styles and aesthetics are considered for entry. DeVos Place Convention Center is a public facility open to everyone; as such, the content of submissions should be appropriate for all viewers.

 

Artists must be 18 years of age or older to enter and only digital submissions will be accepted. There is no cost to participate and the juried first place award winner will receive $5,000.
