Grand Valley State University and the Center for Michigan/Bridge Magazine will co-host a town hall discussion about the state’s water priorities and the economic activity generated from the natural resource.
“Great Waters, Great Economy” will be held November 4, 7:30-9 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center, Grand River Room. The event is free and open to the public. RSVP online at http://gvsu.edu/s/1bs; parking on the Allendale Campus is free after 6:30 p.m.
The Center for Michigan, which publishes Bridge Magazine, is a nonpartisan “think and do” tank based in Ann Arbor. This town hall is one of several events held around the state as part of the center’s “Your Water, Your Voice” campaign. Priorities and perspectives garnered from town hall participants will be shared with state leaders.
Travus Burton, Grand Valley’s director for civic learning and community engagement, said the town hall links closely with Grand Valley’s Making Waves About Water initiative, a two-year endeavor that creates opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, resources and activities surrounding the natural resource.
“We are all stakeholders in the conversation around economic activity associated with our natural waters,” Burton said. “It is very important that diverse perspectives on this topic are heard and a major goal for the Making Waves Initiative is to create new avenues for engaging communities around important topics related to water.”
