There comes a time when children leave their childhood home and move on to create a future of their own. Well, that time has come for Rose, Ruby, and Willow, the red panda cubs at John Ball Zoo.
The John Ball Zoo participates in the Red Panda Species Survival Plan (SSP), the goal of which is to maintain healthy genetically diverse populations of red pandas in human care at institutions that are part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Since red pandas are endangered, maintaining healthy populations of the red pandas are important for the future of the species.
The three cubs are now following in their parent’s footsteps as part of the Red Panda SSP and continuing the next period of their life at an AZA-accredited zoo in Tennessee.
Visitors will be able to see the sisters in the red panda habitat through Aug. 22. The John Ball Zoo is located at 1300 W. Fulton St. The zoo is open from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily. For more information, visit jbzoo.org.
