The Salvation Army Kroc Center is holding its first public outdoor event since 2019 Friday, Aug. 20, in the form of the “Kroc Block Party.” This event is free to both members and non-members.
Kids and parents alike can cool off on the Kroc Center’s giant slip & slide from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Then, activities will shift to the outdoor amphitheater at 8:30 p.m. for a screening of a family movie (please call for movie title). Families should bring a beach towel or blanket; lawn chairs are also welcome.
Kona Ice of West Grand Rapids will be selling treats on-site, and local organizations will also have tables with information and activities for families. Organizations scheduled to participate include Grand Rapids Public Schools, Consumers Energy, National Heritage Academies, Vibrant Futures, Early Learning Neighborhood Collaborative, Kent County Prevention Coalition, Bethany Christian Services, and Grand Rapids Ballet School.
The event will be cancelled in the event of heavy rain or lightning. Visit the Kroc Center’s Facebook page or call 616-588-7200 for more information.
While current state health orders do not mandate face coverings or any other COVID-19 prevention measures for outdoor events, attendees will still be encouraged to maintain distance from other groups while waiting in line for the slip & slide and watching the movie.
