Woodland Mall will celebrate the upcoming academic year through prizes and promotions as well as partnering with the Heart of West Michigan United Way to “set all students up for a successful school year,” according to an Aug. 17 announcement.
While shopping for school supplies, gear, clothing, shoes, make-up and plenty of hand sanitizer, back-to-school shoppers are encouraged to share their school pride on Saturday, Aug. 21, for a chance to win gift cards or other prizes from retailers.
From noon to 2 p.m., elementary through college students dressed in school colors, carrying a pennant, wearing team uniforms, sporting a school shirt or hat — or even dressed as the school mascot — will be selected at random for prizes.
“Heading back to school is always an exciting time, and Woodland Mall has what your child needs to be prepared for a fun and successful school year,” Mikia Ross, interim senior marketing director for Woodland Mall, said in supplied material. “We plan to make the return to the classroom as fun as possible — which starts with a great back-to-school shopping experience.”
Woodland Mall and participating retailers will also partner with the Heart of West Michigan United Way on its Stuff the Bus campaign through Aug. 21 to collect and distribute backpacks and school supplies for students in need. Donation bins will be located at Macy’s and JCPenney for shoppers to place donated items.
Suggested supplies for the drive include backpacks, lunchboxes, pens and pencils, highlighters, colored pencils, crayons and markers, glue sticks, folders, notebooks and loose leaf paper.
“We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with Woodland Mall,” Kim Ritz, vice president of donor strategy and engagement for Heart of West Michigan United Way, said in supplied material. “Thanks to their efforts, we can support even more young students in our community and help them start the school year off right.”
Also, through Sept. 6, for every $200 spent at Woodland Mall, customers will receive a $25 gift card of their choice from a list of more than 30 merchants including Macy’s, Sephora, Bath & Body Works and more.
