Kentwood’s annual Trunk or Treat features candy, costumes and fun on Oct. 21

The City of Kentwood is inviting community members to enjoy some spooky, seasonal fun at its annual Trunk or Treat event on Saturday, Oct. 21.

The free event takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Department of Public Works, 5068 Breton Ave. SE. Kids can collect candy and explore more than 25 City and community vehicles.

These vehicles will feature seasonally decorated trunks for community members to view and enjoy. Attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite trunk during and after the event using the online form that will be available at kentwood.us/TrunkOrTreat.

Children are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes and bring their own bag for collecting candy.

“Our Trunk or Treat event gives community members, City personnel and local organizations an opportunity to connect and celebrate the season, while providing a more controlled trick-or-treating environment,” said Val Romeo, Kentwood Parks and Recreation director. “We’re excited to welcome our city’s best ghosts and ghouls for this spooky celebration.”

Local businesses and community groups wishing to participate in Trunk or Treat can register for free online until 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13. Pre-registration is not required for community members to attend the event.

Community members are invited to enjoy some spooky Halloween fun at the City of Kentwood’s Trunk or Treat event on Saturday, Oct. 22.

The free event takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Department of Public Works, 5068 Breton Ave. SE, where more than 25 City and community vehicles will be stationed with decorated trunks filled with treats.

In addition to collecting candy, participants will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite trunk. Children are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes and bring their own bag for collecting candy.

“Trunk or Treat provides a more controlled trick-or-treating environment while also giving local organizations and leaders a chance to connect with residents,” said Val Romeo, Kentwood Parks and Recreation director. “We’re looking forward to enjoying some family fun and seeing many community members in costumes and creative trunk designs at this year’s event.”

After a modified Trunk or Treat last year, when pandemic precautions allowed only a drive-through event for the Kentwood community, the City of Kentwood is once again inviting trick-or-treaters to don their costumes and come to the city’s Trunk or Treat event Saturday, Oct. 23.

“Trunk or Treat gives families a fun alternative to door-to-door Halloween activities while connecting with community organizations in a more controlled environment,” Val Romeo, Kentwood Parks and Recreation director, said in supplied material. “It also offers holiday-decor enthusiasts the opportunity to get creative with their trunks. Halloween is such a spirited holiday, and we’re looking forward to seeing all of the costumes and trunks that come out of this year’s event.”

The Kentwood Parks and Recreation Department will continue to monitor public health guidance and state orders, which may necessitate changes to the event.

Kentwood to host modified Trunk or Treat drive-through event Saturday

The City of Kentwood invites city families to participate in a Trunk or Treat Drive-through event this weekend as “masked goblins, princesses, ghosts, witches, vampires and the likes” are also invited to haunt the city’s annual event Saturday, Oct. 24.
 

According to an announcement from the city, the free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot at the Kent District Library – Kentwood (Richard L. Root) branch, located at 4950 Breton Ave. SE.

Each year, children traditionally trick-or-treat around in the city’s public works facility full of decorated city and community vehicles. The year, however, to keep everyone safe, families will drive through a line of decorated trucks to collect the coveted treats.

“This year has been filled with so many cancellations, so we wanted to organize an event that will give kids something to look forward to and feel more normal while still making sure participants are safe,” Val Romeo, Kentwood Parks and Recreation director, said in supplied material. “Halloween is already a spirited and fun holiday so we’re looking forward to seeing all of the extra creativity that comes out of this year’s event.”

Children are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes and bring their own candy-collection bag. All participants are required to wear a mask and remain in their vehicles for the event.

Participants will also have the opportunity to virtually vote for their favorite trunk out of the 20-plus organizations and community groups that will be handing out individually packaged treats with masks and gloves on throughout the event.

Kentwood’s annual Fall Festival’s Trunk or Treat brought the family fun to community

There was a whole bunch of kids and candy, and a fair amount of spooky things, as the City of Kentwood invited families and trick-or-treaters to the city’s annual Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat event Saturday, Oct. 20.

 

The free event was held at the Kentwood Department of Public Works facility, and WKTV was there to record the family friendly activities including hayrides, face painting, a bounce house and games. The festival also featured the community fall-favorite, Trunk or Treat, where various City and community vehicles decorate and fill their trunks with candy. Oh, and Honest Abe (Mayor Stephen Kepley) also made an appearance.
