Kentwood Residents: Sign up for the Holiday Light Display Contest through Dec. 12

The City of Kentwood is in search of its very own Clark Griswold, inviting residents to enter their festive homes in its annual Holiday Light Display Contest.

Community members who live in the city of Kentwood or Kentwood Public Schools district are encouraged to register and submit a photo of their outdoor display online through Dec. 12.





The photos will be posted to the City’s social media pages, where anyone can vote for their favorite display. The top three vote-getters will earn bragging rights for a year.


“We’re looking forward to hosting the Holiday Light Display Contest again and seeing the creative and colorful displays residents create this year,” Kentwood Parks and Recreation Director Val Romeo said. “This friendly competition offers an opportunity for loved ones to work together and create a festive light display, bringing holiday cheer to their neighbors and other residents.”


Voting will take place Dec. 13-18 on the City of Kentwood and City of Kentwood Parks and Recreation Department Facebook pages. The winners will be announced online Thursday, Dec. 19.

The City of Kentwood is in search of its very own Clark Griswold and invites the community to participate in the third-annual Holiday Light Display Contest.

Interested community members can register online at bit.ly/HolidayLightContest from Dec. 1-14. Entries must be located within Kentwood city limits or the Kentwood Public School district.


Submitted photos will be posted to the City’s social media pages, where community members will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite display. The three displays with the most votes will earn cash prizes sponsored by Community West Credit Union as well as bragging rights for a year.



“We’re excited to again offer this fun and festive holiday light display contest and see how creative our community can get,” said Val Romeo, Kentwood Parks and Recreation director. “This friendly competition helps bring our community together and encourages residents to get into the holiday spirit and show off their decorating skills.”


The winners receive:

  • First place – Kentwood’s Clark Griswold Trophy – named after Chevy Chase’s character in the movie “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” – as well as $100.
  • Second place – $50
  • Third place – $25

Voting takes place Dec. 15-20 on the City’s Facebook pages: City of Kentwood and City of Kentwood Parks and Recreation Department. The winners will be announced online Thursday, Dec. 21.

The City of Kentwood is inviting residents to get in the holiday spirit by participating in the second annual holiday light display contest.

Community members interested in participating are asked to first register online at bit.ly/HolidayLightContest. They can then submit photos of their outdoor holiday light display to eRecreation@kentwood.us or on social media using the hashtag #KentwoodLightContest from Dec. 1-14.

Entries must be located within Kentwood city limits or within the Kentwood Public School district. The photos will be posted to the City’s social media platforms, where community members can vote for their favorite display. The three displays with the most votes will earn prizes and bragging rights for a year. 

“After a successful inaugural year, we’re excited to host this friendly, festive competition again,” said Val Romeo, Kentwood Parks and Recreation director. “This is a fun opportunity for our community to get into the holiday spirit and tap into their creative side.”

  • Second place: A second place trophy and a Kentwood Parks and Recreation goody bag. 
  • Third place: A third place trophy and a Kentwood Parks and Recreation goody bag. 

Voting will take place Dec. 15-20 on the City’s Facebook Pages – City of Kentwood and City of Kentwood Parks and Recreation Department. The winners will be announced online Wednesday, Dec. 21.
